Abstract

Fisheries, as one of the sub-sectors of agriculture, has played an important role in creating employment, livelihood and economic activities in the economic and social development of many countries, especially countries with blue sea coasts. Preservation of reserves is a globally emphasized principle and a key criterion in the sustainable use of all water resources. According to the catch of tuna fish (more than 270 thousand tons) in 1402, about 40 thousand billion tomans (more than 700 million dollars), the annual turnover of these species in the waters of the south of the country is estimated. In Iran, there are more than 800 off-shore tuna fishing vessels, which saves more than 175 million dollars. Iran owns about 3-4% of the world's commercial tuna fish catch, nearly 15% of the commercial tuna fish catch of the Indian Ocean, and more than 20% of the commercial tuna fish catch of the western Indian Ocean. Sistan and Baluchistan province has the largest catch of large and tuna fish in the southern waters of the country in 2023. In order to supply the raw material for about 740 million canning capacity of the country, more than 270 thousand tons of fish are estimated to be needed annually in the country, and the amount of tuna fish (except pseudo-tuna fish) used for canning in 2023 is about 235 thousand tons according to official statistics.
